The fifth IMBeR Eutrophication Study Group Meeting was held online on 24 April with 11 participants. The study group co-Chair Prof. Peter Thompson of CSIRO (Australia) provided a summary of previous sessions and highlighted the goals of the meeting. Noreen Kelly, from Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Canada, presented on the impact of nitrogen loading on eelgrass populations and the risk of eutrophication in the Scotian Shelf, using a nitrogen loading model to identify areas at risk. A cumulative impacts model based on six activities was also generated, with many eelgrass beds exceeding the threshold for loss. Additionally, Noreen discussed a paper on harmful algal events in Canadian waters. The study group co-Chair Prof. Dongyan Liu of SKLEC, ECNU (China) proposed a planning workshop for the group. The attendees then exchanged ideas on future outcomes. More activities (https://imber.ecnu.edu.cn/Eutrophication/list.htm) will be carried out soon.
